30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Read this week's bulletin to see the latest from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Blind Bartimaeus was the focus of my prayer during an 8-day silent retreat this past summer. These four lines from today’s Gospel can encourage, instruct, and lead us into God’s merciful heart:
"Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." "What do you want me to do for you?" "Master, I want to see." "Go your way; your faith has saved you."
Will we, like Bartimaeus, cry out to Jesus and hear him call us to take courage and rise from where we are? Will we risk answering His question: What do we truly want Him to do for us? And is our faith growing, moment by moment, to trust in His love, calling, and healing power?
Sometimes it's easier to believe on behalf of someone else rather than for ourselves. If that’s the case, as Fr. Kennell reminds us each week, let’s pray for one another, knowing that others will also pray for us to gather the courage to get up from where we are in faith and follow Christ.
