1st Sunday of Lent

Dear Parish Family,
Welcome to Lent! I hope that this season becomes a time of pruning for the bearing of lots of rich fruit.
I am an avid college football fan. I remember seeing a clip of the legendary Tim Tebow during the 2008 National Championship Game speaking to his fellow teammates at halftime. With all the intensity that he was known for, he busted into the middle of the team shouting, “We’ve got thirty minutes for the rest of our lives!” The truth of the statement is that they likely were never going to be in this position again: playing for a national championship. They needed to make the most of the opportunity and leave nothing behind.
My prayer is that we can approach this Lenten season and journey with the same attitude. Can we see the next forty days as if they were our only time of preparation to meet the Lord? We make this forty day journey with Him, who at the end of it, lays down his life in order to take it up again. Of course, we will likely go through a few more (perhaps forty years’ more) Lents; but if we approached each with the seriousness that this is my only time to really work on the areas of my life that need converting and transformation in order to bring me into greater relationship with the Lord, then we can be sure that we will come out on the other side without any regrets.
God bless you!
