Good Shepherd Sunday

Dear Parish Family,
On the Fourth Sunday of Easter each year we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday. The reading from the Gospel always tells of Jesus referring to himself by this title. He is the one who leads us where we really want to go in life. Following him is the only sure Way to find peace, joy, hope, and unflagging love in a world that is full of tempting pastures that promise satiation but turn up barren and brittle. Although we don’t hear it this year in the liturgy, Psalm 23 is a good place to turn for consolation in difficulties, to be reminded clearly of the path the Lord calls us to journey with him.
Today is also a day to focus on and pray for vocations within the Church, specifically of the priesthood, permanent diaconate, and the religious/consecrated states. We are blessed to have a strong number of seminarians for our diocese, including our own Joseph Elmore who was recently accepted. Also, over the last two Saturdays, four of our men were ordained to the transitional diaconate in preparation for ordination to the priesthood next summer of 2025. In three weeks, we will also have another four men ordained to the permanent diaconate, joining the ranks of our own Deacons Earl and Tim.
Speaking of Dcn. Earl, today marks his 45th Anniversary of Ordination! What a blessing he has been and continues to be for our community and the Church. Please pray for him, Dcn. Tim, and me (if you don’t mind), that we will carry out faithfully what the Lord and his Church have entrusted to us, participating in the care of the Good Shepherd.
Gods bless you all.
