Understanding Holy Week

Holy Thursday

The Mass of the Lord's Supper commemorates Jesus' institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood at the Last Supper. During this beautiful liturgy, we recall Christ's example of service through the washing of feet. After Mass, we process with the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose, where we're invited to spend time in Adoration, recalling Jesus' agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Good Friday:

On this solemn day when no Masses are celebrated, we remember Christ's suffering and death. The Stations of the Cross help us walk with Jesus on his journey to Calvary. The Liturgy of the Lord's Passion includes the reading of the Passion, veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion. Good Friday is a day of fasting and abstinence as we reflect on the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for our salvation.

Holy Saturday & Easter Vigil:

After a day of quiet anticipation, the Easter Vigil begins in darkness with the blessing of the new fire and Paschal Candle. This "mother of all vigils" includes the Liturgy of the Word recounting salvation history, the welcoming of new members into the Church through Baptism and Confirmation, and the first joyful celebration of Easter. The Vigil Mass is the most beautiful and significant liturgy of the year.

Easter Sunday:

We celebrate Christ's triumph over sin and death with great joy. The Easter Sunday Masses continue our celebration of the Resurrection, the cornerstone of our faith and the fulfillment of God's promises.

We invite all parishioners to participate in these sacred liturgies as we journey together through the Paschal Mystery.
