Dear Parish Family,
Welcome back to full-fledged Ordinary Time! As I referenced last week, the word “ordinary,” as it is employed here for this liturgical season, does not refer to the definition that we normally use for this word, as in the everyday, run-of-the-mill stuff of life. It comes from a word meaning “order.” However, I think we can still benefit from thinking of Ordinary Time as the way we are to order the everyday, run-of-the-mill aspects and seasons of our lives.
Part of what has become totally ordinary for the vast majority of us is our engagement with the digital world. Computers and the Internet began to be household realities in the mid to late 90s; but everything really seemed to explode with the advent of the smartphone. We all now have access to essentially an infinite grasp of knowledge and worldwide connection with a machine that sits in our pockets! And we spend a lot of time on these phones and other devices. I could probably talk about the dangers of this, of course, but that’s not the point here. Really it’s the opposite. How can we best utilize this new normal, this new “ordinary” of human existence?
Our parish has a new website. If you haven’t seen it yet, please check it out! Our website is both a resource for the established Catholic and to be a tool for those who are seeking. The site is and will be fairly dynamic. Different layers of content will continue to be added and archived overtime. It will serve as a kind of library moving forward. I pray that it will be more than just an easy and convenient way to find out when Mass is, but rather a far reaching arm of our parish community to help bring others to the truth, beauty, and goodness of a life with Christ in the Catholic Church. Please pray that it will be so!
God bless you.
